The Victorian , CityWalk Dubai

A classic cafe with real flair, The Victorian takes British cuisine with gusto.  It is nested at the stylish Citywalk Boulevard and the period touches in it’s interior that is set like a classic English Tea Lounge with artworks adorning the walls, add to the dining experience which will takes you back to a former era in British gastronomy.

The food is determinedly British fare, featuring British specialties like Yorkshire pudding, Scotch eggs, Eton mess or Victoria sponge .

Once seated, the real draw is their extensive menu with very serious thing is the food. The service was pleasantly friendly and quick. We began with a literal show stopper dish Scotch egg that was a treat and undoubtedly the best I have had till date.

The chicken liver pate with ginger date paste was so flavorful and toothsome that it vanished in seconds. The simple yet sumptuous Summer squash and honey roasted pumpkin salad was simply the best to go along with starters.

Then the main dishes begin to stream out: The British classic Wagyu Rib eye served with Yorkshire pudding, cheesy mash and glazed baby carrots was unthinkably rich and delicious meaty meal.

The other main dish we opted was the grilled baby chicken with cherry tomatoes on the vine, mushroom sauce and vegetables was pleasantly one of the light yet most enjoyable dish.

As I well expected, both the main courses dishes were beautifully spiced, served warm with a flavors that added a thoughtful complexity to each dishes.

Their tea menu is fabulous with 28 types of teas.  Don’t leave the place until after you have nosed through the dessert menu, an evocative run of thing like Orange and lemon Victoria sponge. It was as good as it sounds.

If you want to expand the feel of British dinning, finish off with a hot cuppa of Raspberry Rose white tea served in the vintage tea cutlery.
